One of the most famous New 7 Wonders of the World, the Great Wall of China is one of the most extensive engineering projects in history, stretching 21,196km (13,170 miles) in total length and the majority of it was built by the Ming Dynasty to defend against Mongolian raids. The remains of the wall is distributed throughout 15 provinces in China, but the most famous are generally visited from Beijing. The most popular parts of the wall are Mutianyu and Badaling, which are just outside Beijing and easily accessible with a tour or public transport, and are the easiest to hike.
