The picturesque Vermont city attracts many tourists and hosts many activities including a balloon festival, craft shows, theatrical productions, art displays and a British Invasion event. Stowe was chartered in 1763 by New Hampshire Royal Governor Benning Wentworth. Its nickname is "The Ski Capital of the East." Notable sites are Stowe Community Church, Mount Mansfield, Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe Mountain Resort, Smugglers' Notch State Park, Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum and Stowe Town Hall.
