Punta Arenas is the capital city of Chile's southernmost region, Magallanes and Antartica Chilena. Punta Arenas has grown in geopolitical importance in recent years because it is often used as a base for expeditions to the Antarctic. One of its main attractions is the Nao Victoria Museum, in which you can see a full-size replica of the first ship ever to circumnavigate the world: Ferdinand Magellan's Nao Victoria. It is also a great place for seeing penguins in their natural habitat, as there are 2 nearby rookeries for Magellanic penguins.
