The stunning Gothic Revival style church located in Old Montreal built between 1824-29 was designed by architect James O'Donnell and its towers were the work of architect John Ostell with the western tower La Perseverance constructed in 1841 and the eastern La Temperance in 1843. Notre Dame Basilica of Montreal's decoration of blue and gold hues and gilded leaves was based on Paris' Sainte-Chapelle and performed by priest Victor Rousselot and Victor Bourgeau. The Roman Catholic church, which is a National Historic Site of Canada, features stained glass windows portraying Montreal's religious history.
