The affluent neighborhood located on one of San Francisco's 44 hills first gained its upper class reputation when four Central Pacific Railroad tycoons chose the location to build their mansions. Nob Hill used to be called California Hill until the mid-1800s when the wealthy entrepreneurs moved there and it was renamed using an unfavorable British slang term for the newly rich. It features Grace Cathedral Episcopal Church, Huntington Park, Nob Hill Masonic Center, Cable Car Museum and many posh hotels.
