This spectacularly located city is one of the few in Germany to escape bombing during WWII. Konstanz, near the Swiss border, surrounded by the Alps, bisected by the Rhine, and on the shores of Lake Constance, the largest lake in Germany, is one of the country’s most preserved and charming cities with a maze of medieval alleyways. No trip to Konstanz is complete without a stroll through the Niederburg, the cobble-stoned old town of half-timbered town houses, and along the tranquil tree-lined lakefront promenade.
