The city of Crystal River is situated in the heart of the Nature Coast in Florida. The city was incorporated in 1903 and was first settled by Native Americans around 500 B.C. The city is located near the Crystal River Preserve State Park and the Crystal River Archaeological State Park. The city is also located around the Kings Bay which is spring-fed; it is surrounded by more than 50 springs. The Crystal River's spring group is the second largest in the state of Florida. The city is also known for being the home of many manatees, and has even been nicknamed the "Home of the Manatee."
