This Pennsylvania borough is the site of one of the earliest Army institutions in the United States with its Carlisle Barracks - now the location of the U.S. Army War College - dating back to 1757. Carlisle was established in 1751 by Scotch-Irish settlers. It is part of the Harrisburg-Carlisle Metropolitan Area and well-known for putting on many automobile shows every year. Other points of interest include the U.S. Army Military Heritage Museum, Dickinson College, Cumberland County Historical Society, Carlisle Theatre and the Carlisle Fairgrounds.
