About Capilano Suspension Bridge

The 450-foot long North Vancouver bridge rising 230 feet above the Capilano River was first constructed by Scottish engineer George Grant Mackay in 1889 from hemp rope and cedar. The bridge was remade with wire cable in 1904 and then totally rebuilt in 1956. The famous bridge is surrounded by lush greenery and totem poles crafted by British Columbia First Nation artists. The surrounding Capilano Suspension Bridge Park has the daring Cliffwalk, Treetops Adventure and the seasonal Capilano Canyon Lights as well as shopping and dining options.
