This upscale suburb of Portland is home to the famous Portland Head Lighthouse. English explorer John Smith visited the region in 1615 and when he showed his New England map to King Charles I, the royal named Cape Elizabeth after his sister. Other town highlights are Crescent Beach State Park, Cape Elizabeth Lights, Goddard Mansion, Two Lights State Park, Fort Williams Park, Ram Island Ledge Lighthouse and the Spurwink Congregational Church.
